Iroquois Gas Transmission System, L.P. is a partnership of affiliates of five U.S. and Canadian energy companies, and is owner of a 411-mile interstate natural gas pipeline extending from the U.S.-Canadian border at Waddington, NY through western Connecticut to its terminus in Commack, NY, and from Huntington, NY, to the Bronx. Its wholly owned subsidiary, the Iroquois Pipeline Operating Company, headquartered in Shelton, Connecticut, is the agent for and operator of the pipeline.
The Iroquois pipeline commenced full operations on January 28, 1992, creating an important pipeline link between North American markets and western Canadian natural gas supplies. Producers in Alberta would enjoy increased access to markets in the United States, Northeast energy companies would profit from diverse supply options, and consumers would benefit from more competitive energy choices.
Since 1992, we've expanded our system to meet the needs of our customers, while minimizing the impacts on local communities. In 1994, we constructed a compressor station in Wright, New York; in 1995, we constructed a second station in Croghan, NY, In 1998, in Athens, NY, we added a third compressor station to our system. In 2004, upon completion of the Eastchester project, a 36-mile pipeline extension to the Bronx, and two new compressor stations in Boonville and Dover, NY, were added to our system. We continue to evaluate reasonable expansions to our system to increase services to energy markets in the Northeast.
