LPEP Projects

People Make the Difference

LPEP was also about helping people make a difference. While LPEP was the seed, it was the people working for the betterment of their community and the environment who helped to nurture this seed and make it grow into something permanent and lasting.

And it was about building partnerships. When you look at LPEP projects, you'll see partnerships everywhere—between environmentalists, community leaders, and local, state, and federal govenments. In one project in Shelton, Connecticut, the partnership even included landowners who contributed their easement money to help preserve open space in their community.

Iroquois was an active participant in all these partnerships. Sometimes, as with the development of the Greenport Hudson River Conservation Area, we even helped to create partnerships where none had existed before, such as between the town and the local land trust.

Stories of Success

We've chosen four project sites along the path of the pipeline as examples of the more than 200 projects made possible by LPEP grants.
